ARTIST'S STATEMENT

 

 

What has given me the courage to make art is that art makes itself... I simply hold the brush.   My most recent work is pure painting, bold and colorful.  I have worked exclusively in encaustic and mixed media for the past four years.   Some have said my paintings are an elegant mystery.  I want each person to feel like they are standing beside me looking into a beautiful place of mystery where anything is possible.   I am inspired by the natural world around me and reinterpret it in a fauvist pallet, often using the theme of illumination. For me illumination is an endless subject in both the spiritual and the physical sense.    Margaret Bertrand 2011
