ABOUT
THE WORKS
|
Each piece
is handmade paper with found objects added to it.
About the paper: The paper for many of the pieces is made
in the Japanese tradition, using Kozo. Kozo is the inner bark
of the Mulberry tree. There are several layers of paper which
have been pigmented with different colors. Other pieces are made
in the European tradition, using cotton linter. Linter is the
fiber left on cotton seed after the long fibers have been removed
in the ginning process. The paper has four deckled edges emblematic
of handmade paper.
About the found objects: The Warriors usually include objects
from the sea. Each one includes shell pieces to form the Warrior's
head and body. Often other material such as ribbon or rafia is
used for the arms. Sometimes a piece of Kelp is part of the landscape
or a feather is used as the Warrior's wings.
About the Warriors: The warriors are not war-like. They are
stout spirits. You can see this in their faces and figures. They
will be happy to be with you |
